September 27, 2012. (Romereports.com) Benedict XVI has attended many concerts during his pontificate, but this is probably the first time an opera has gone to him. This is a contemporary piece entitled
“Augustinus - A mosaic of sounds,” which narrates the life of St. Augustine.
It was a gift from the German diocese of Würzburg in northern Bavaria, which is the homeland of Benedict XVI.
The opera tries to follow and reflect the prayers of the saint. The concert was part of an international conference organized by the Augustinian Patristic Institute in Rome.
The Pope thanked the group and highlighted that the teachings of St. Augustine are still relevant today, since they reflect the desire humans have to find God.
