July 4, 2012. (Romereports.com) Before departing on his summer vacation, the pope released a letter supporting the Vatican's Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone. In it, he recognizes the cardinal's thoughtful advice and help in recent months referring to the recent Vatileaks scandal.
It also notes that Bertone has been the subject of “unjust criticism” with Benedict XVI then expressing his “personal confidence” in him.
The criticism aimed at Bertone came from the leaked documents that were traced back to the pope's butler Paolo Gabriele. It's also believed to show some of the fighting within the Roman Curia.
