March 21, 2013. (Romereports.com) (-VIDEO ONLY-) Pope Francis'
third audience with a Latin American figure within the first week of his pontificate took place Thursday, with
Nobel Peace Prize winner Adolfo Perez Esquivel. The brief meeting between the two Argentinians marked the
first time the
Pope met with a civilian, rather than a political or religious leader.
It was emotional, and more than a meeting, it resembled a reunion between two long-time friends. They spoke about martyrs from the Americas, the Pope's choice to call himself Francis, ecumenism and protecting the environment. They also spoke about the Pope's first audience, with Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.
They said goodbye with an embrace, and Pope Francis asked Esquivel to pray for him.
