April 22, 2011. (Romereports.com) Benedict XVI has become the first  Pope to take part in a television program. On  Friday, the Pope answered seven questions submitted by viewers from around the world. The topics included the meaning of pain, care for the sickly,  the persecution of Christians and  the relationship between the Church and Muslims. 

The first question was from a seven year old Japanese girl,  who saw how her friends died during the recent earthquake. The girl said: "I ask the Pope, who talks with God, to explain why he allows the suffering of children."

"We don't have the answers but we know that Jesus suffered just like you, because he too was  innocent. The true God who comes to life in Jesus is with us. Even in sadness,  when we don't have all the  answers, God is on our side and that will help us. "


The Pope was moved with the question of an Italian woman, whose son in a coma. The woman asked where her son's soul is.

"I'm sure that his  hidden soul deeply feels  your love, even if he doesn't fully understand it. Your presence, dear parents, dear mother, beside him for hours every day, is something of huge value and enormous love.”


The Pope said that caring for an ill son is a great service to humanity because it shows  courage and respect for life.

A Muslim woman  from Ivory Coast, asked about  Jesus' perspective on peace.  Benedict XVI said that violence never comes from God.  It never bears good fruit and it's not the way to overcome hardships.

To the Christians of Iraq who are tempted to leave the country, the Pope said he understands. He added that he continues to pray for them and the reconciliation of their country.

The first television interview of the Pope also  included questions about the life of Jesus, the meaning of the Resurrection and the role of Mary. The unexpected dialogue between Ratzinger and the world was broadcast live in several television stations from around the world.
