July 8, 2011. (Romereports.com) Benedict XVI has finally arrived at Castel Gandolfo to begin his summer vacation. After arriving by helicopter from Rome, the pope was greeted by a welcoming committee.
Castel Gandolfo is a small Italian town located just 15 miles south of Rome. The town enjoys a nice view over the Lake Albano, which has made it a popular vacation spot for previous popes.
After arriving, Benedict XVI gave a blessing to the crowd that gathered to welcome the pope to his summer residence.
The town is a popular attraction for Italians and foreigners, many of them coming in the summer months to attend an Angelus with the pope.
