November 3, 2010. The general audience numbered over 7,000 participants, including various members from American Jewish and Catholic delegations in attendance.
“I am especially pleased to greet
the delegation from the Anti-Defamation league, as well as the
representatives of Pittsburgh's Jewish and Catholic communities," said the pope.
The Pope also addressed the audience in Spanish stating his excitement
for his upcoming trip to Spain. He will make a pilgrimage to Santiago de
Compostela and later head to Barcelona to consecrate the Sagrada
Familia.
The Anti-Defamation League is an organization that fights anti-Semitism in the US and worldwide.
During his speech, the Pope also proposed the example of the nun Marguerite d'Oingt. She was part of the Carthusian French community and later became the prioress for her convent.
She became an avid writer and focused on teaching her readers how to meditate in a very straightforward manner.
Benedict XVI“Marguerite's writings, which include the earliest known examples of Provencal French, were inspired by the evangelical spirituality of St. Bruno; they reveal her fine sensibility and her deep desire for God.”
The Pope also addressed the audience in Spanish stating his excitement for his upcoming trip to Spain. He will make a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela and later head to Barcelona to consecrate the Sagrada Familia.
