December 27, 2012. (Romereports.com) Benedict XVI used the remarks of his Angelus to praise Saint Stephen on Wednesday, his feast day. He is recognized as the Church's first martyr, whose life was completely devoted to God.
During his speech, the Pope encouraged everyone to follow St. Stephen's example and follow a path of good and humanity, according to God's plan.
BENEDICT XVI
“Today, immediately after Christmas Day, by tradition we celebrate the feast of the first martyr, Saint Stephen the Deacon. Like him, may we be blessed by God’s grace to have the courage to speak up and to defend the truth of our faith in public, with charity and constancy.”
The Pope reminded the pilgrims gathered at St. Peter's Square that, even in the moment before his death, Saint Stephen kneeled down in prayer and entrusted himself to Jesus.
