YoutubeSeptember 26, 2009. While on his trip to the Czech Republic, the pope met with diplomats and the country’s highest government officials.

The meeting took place in the Prague Castle where the pope reflected on the search for liberty and truth as going hand in hand, because finding one of them means finding the other.

Benedict XVI

“For Christians, truth has a name: God. And goodness has a face: Jesus Christ. The faith of Christians, from the time of Saints Cyril and Methodius and the early missionaries, has in fact played a decisive role in shaping the spiritual and cultural heritage of this country. It must do likewise in the present and into the future.”

The pope encouraged them to work toward an integral human development and to foster Christian roots in Europe.

He also alluded to the slogan on the Czech presidential flag: Truth prevails.

Benedict XVI
“In the end, truth does conquer, not by force, but by persuasion, by heroic witness of men and women of firm principle, by sincere dialogue which looks beyond self-interest to the demands of the common good”.

With the meeting the pope hopes to strengthen the Christian identity of the old continent and of the west.
