YoutubeFebruary 7, 2013. (Romereports.com) Benedict XVI welcomed the participants of the plenary assembly of the Pontifical Council for Culture, which meets in Rome from February 6-9 to speak about the emerging youth cultures.

During his speech, he made an interesting diagnostic on the culture facing youth today.

BENEDICT XVI
“Numerous factors show a cultural panorama that is ever more fragmented, and in continual and fast-paced evolution, of which social media is no stranger to. Neither are the new communication tools that are favored and that provoke among them a continuous and rapid change of mind, of dress and of behavior.”

Benedict XVI also mentioned the problems that many youths face today, such as unemployment and the internal conflicts they are living through, within the religious and sentimental spheres.

The Pope warned about the dangers of living out faith solely through an individualistic and emotional perspective.

Among the members of the Pontifical Council are: architect Santiago Calatrava, artist Marko Rupnik, and social media experts such as fathers Antonio Spadaro and Francesc Torralba.

FRANCESC TORRALBA
Consultant, Pontifical Council for Culture
“We let young people speak, we are attentive to their artistic and cultural productions. As a matter of fact, we began with a rock concert, which was unimaginable at the Holy See. There's also a will to not just see the negatives in youth, but also the positive, their search for meaning, those noble values like solidarity, the cooperation among youths to see what verbs, what seeds of truth there is within youth.”

The Pontifical Council for Culture organizes its assembly in Rome every two years to define the Church's stance within modern culture.
