YoutubeAugust 1, 2011. (Romereports.com) With hunger and thirst taking over the Horn of Africa, the pope made a call to end indifference. While addressing roughly 3,000 pilgrims in his summer residence, he urged for people to help those in need.

Benedict XVI
“In today's Gospel passage we hear of the multiplication of loaves and fishes, which in a wonderful way prefigured the institution of the Eucharist.”

Making reference to Sunday's Gospel, the pope said, just like the loaves and fishes multiplied, Christians too, should unite to offer assistance.

Benedict XVI
“We pray that Christians, scattered like grain throughout the world, will be united in offering the one bread and the one cup, and so become one body in spirit in Christ.”

Recently the United Nations officially declared famine in two regions of Southern Somalia, but the drought is also affecting parts of Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda.

The pope also added that during this time when many people are on holiday, one should not forget to open one's hand and heart to those in need.
