World Youth Day in Rio are hoping to give the Pope a gift during Mass on P
alm Sunday. As a sign of World Youth Day 2013, they want to give the Pope a
10 foot replica of their famous
Christ the Redeemer statue.
Several representatives are expected to attend that Mass, including several
episcopal conferences and lay movements from more than
80 countries. Also expected are pilgrims who attended World Youth Day in Sydney and Madrid.
Now Rio is getting ready to welcome World Youth Day in 2013. In fact, it was
25 years ago that World Youth Day was held in Latin America. Back in 1987,
John Paul II celebrated the gathering in
Buenos Aires, Argentina.
