October 26, 2012. (Romereports.com) Benedict XVI met the president of Cyprus, Demetris Christofias at the Vatican's Apostolic Palace. During their Thursday morning meeting, they talked about human rights and religious liberty in the Middle East.
Since Cyprus currently holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union, the situation of Europe was also discussed. The president gave the Pope a small silver olive tree, which represents peace. The Pope gave Christofias a pen which is designed after the altar pillars of St. Peter's Basilica.
