March 21, 2013. (Romereports.com) On Thursday, Pope Francis held a brief meeting with a Nobel Prize Prize winner from Argentina. Adolfo Perez Esquivel, came to Rome precisely to meet with the Pope and show his support.

“On the contrary, I really wanted to see you.”

“It was a very moving meeting. Both of us were very excited. He asked us to pray for him.”
Their conversation included some of the challenges faced by the Catholic Church when it comes to ecumenism.

“He told me that yesterday, he met with leaders of other religions. He said just how important it is for us to show respect. For all of mankind to work together to promote peace.”
The Nobel Prize winner said that the election of a Latin American Pope is very significant for the Church in Latin America, since it shows that the Church is universal, not just centered in Europe.
He added that the Pope asked him to pray for him and his pontificate.
“Pray for me. I need your prayers.”
During their conversation, they also talked about Latin American martyrs, like Helder Cámara, Msgr. Leonidas Proaño, and poet Pedro Casaldáliga.

“One of the things we talked about is how martyrs are the seeds of life. It's interesting, they give their lives by living the Gospel.”
Furthermore, the Nobel Peace Prize winner emphasized that Pope Francis did not collaborate in any way with Jorge Rafael Videla, who was a dictator during the 70's and 80's.
