prime minster of Latvia, Valdis Dombrovskis in a private room located within the Vatican's Paul VI Hall.
While speaking in German, they discussed the economic crisis affecting Europe. They also talked about the role the Catholic Church plays in strengthening family life and values.
As a gift, the prime minister gave the Pope an icon with the image of the patroness of Latvia, 'Our Lady of Aglona.' The image includes decorations with silver tones and pearls.
