Pope names new Patriarch of Venice

January 31, 2012. (Romereports.com) Venice is one of the most prestigious episcopal sees in the world. In the twentieth century three patriarchs of Venice went on to be elected pope: Pope Pius X, John XXIII, and John Paul I.

This is why the appointment of Francesco Moraglia as the new Patriarch of Venice is being watched with special interest. He is 58 years old and until now was serving as bishop of the Italian city La Spezia.
