YoutubeOctober 21, 2012. (Romereports.com) St. Peter's Square was fully decorated, as the Pope named seven new saints of the Catholic Church. With these words, Benedict XVI proclaimed that every one of them, is in Heaven with God.

World Mission Day is also celebrated this Sunday. The Pope talked about how the canonization not only coincides with World Mission Day, but also with the Synod on the New Evangelization. He then highlighted the lives of courage and dedication, these saints led.

BENEDICT XVI

“The Son of Man came to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. These words were the blueprint for living of the seven Blessed men and women that the Church solemnly enrolls this morning in the glorious ranks of the saints. With heroic courage they spent their lives in total consecration to the Lord and in the generous service of their brethren. They are sons and daughters of the Church who chose the path of service following the Lord.”

The Pope said these seven new saints led by example. He then called on them to pray for the Church.

BENEDICT XVI
“May the witness of these new saints, and their lives generously spent for love of Christ, speak today to the whole Church, and may their intercession strengthen and sustain her in her mission to proclaim the Gospel to the whole world.”

One of the new saints is Kateri Tekakwitha, the first Native American Saint.  Among those attending the ceremony, was Charles Chaput, who serves as  the Archbishop of Philadelphia and also the first bishop with  Native American heritage.

Also present, was a young woman, who was miraculously cured as a girl, through the intercession of Carmen Sallés. Thousands of people from all over the world attended the ceremony, including people from Canada, the Philippines and Hawaii.
