May 27, 2011. (Romereports.com) Seated at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, the Pope prayed the rosary, with the Bishops of the Italian Episcopal Conference. It was a way to honor the Virgin Mary while celebrating Italy's 150th  national unification anniversary. With Italy's national unity, a different yet healthy relationship emerged between Italy and the Holy See.

The pope urged Italy's government to honor its role by creating opportunities for the youth.  

To close the short ceremony, the pope entrusted Italy to the Virgin Mary, asking for the country's protection and progress.
