May 13, 2011. (Romereports.com) Benedict XVI met with the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family for the 30th anniversary of its foundation. The group discussed how the theology of the body and the theology of love build strong marriages and families. The pope also noted the importance of love and respecting one's body.
Benedict XVI“The body is the place where the spirit can dwell, in light of this we can understand that our bodies are not inert, heavy material but, if we know how to listen, they speak the language of true love.”
Benedict XVI also remembered the important role that the virtue of chastity plays in respecting the body.
He noted the virtue embraces the joys of life, rather than a rejection of them. And one can attain chastity by accepting love and respecting the body.
The pope also recalled that the institute was created 30 years ago in 1981, and their meeting on May 13, marked the 30th anniversary of the assassination attempt on the life of John Paul II.
