August 3, 2011. (Romereports.com) Most people look for a good book to read during the summer. In today's general audience, the pope recommended reading one of the many books of the Bible, especially when looking for cultural and spiritual awakening.
Benedict XVI“Some of these books are very brief, like the Book of Tobit, which has a very high notion of family and marriage. Or the book of Esther, where the Hebrew queen, through faith and prayer saves her people from extermination.”
The pope told the crowd that some of these books can be read in just an hour. Another interesting read, he said, is the book of Job, which explores the suffering of the innocent.
Benedict XVI“The book deals with the problem of having innocent people suffer, or the Ecclesiastes which grabs one's attention because of its unsettling modernity, which then leads to a discussion on the meaning of life and the world.”
While addressing a large crowd in his summer residence of Castel Gandolfo, the pope also recommended reading the books of the New Testament to get a better understanding of the apostles and their connection with God.
