YoutubeOctober 19, 2009. During the angelus the pope marked World Mission Sunday by acknowledging the hard work of missionaries all over the world.

Benedict XVI

“On this World Mission Sunday I think of the missionaries, clergy and laypeople volunteers that dedicate their existence to take the Gospel to the world in the face of inconveniences and difficulties.”

Benedict remembered two particular missionaries that suffered the consequences of the situation of the countries they were working in.

Benedict XVI

“I’m also reminded of don Ruggero Ruvoletto, a Catholic priest who was recently killed in Brazil, and Father Michael Sinnott who was kidnapped several days ago in the Philippines.”

The pope invited pilgrims to pray for those who have given their lives to mission work.
