August 1, 2012. (Romereports.com) Despite being on vacation at his summer residence in Castel Gandolfo,
the pope has resumed his general audiences every Wednesday. Crowds of people gathered in the town's Liberty Plaza to hear
the pope speak about the teachings on prayer by St. Alphonsus Liguori, an 18th century bishop and a doctor of the Church. He said that along with confession, prayer is a way to arrive at sainthood.
BENEDICT XVI“Saint Alphonsus wanted to make it understand that in every situation of life you can not stop praying, especially in times of trial and difficulty. We always have to confidently call to the gate of the Lord, knowing that He cares for us, His children.”Benedict XVI noted that
the disciples of Jesus lived through difficult times and were only able to overcome them through prayer.BENEDICT XVI“The relationship with God is essential in our lives. Only with a daily personal prayer and participation in the sacraments, can the divine presence that directs our way grow inside of us, it gives light and safety and serenity, even amid difficulties and dangers.”T
he Pope then highlighted the importance of humility in recognizing weakness and asked God to help in confidence.
In his greetings, he made an invitation
not to abandon prayer during the summer holidays.
