April 27, 2011. (Romereports.com) During Benedict XVI's general audience he spoke about the resurrection of Christ in celebration of the first days of Easter. He said that the resurrection brought new life to our world and helps to refocus our thoughts on heaven.
Benedict XVI“Saint Paul exhorts us to make this new life evident by putting to death the things of this earth and setting our hearts on the things that are on high, where Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father.”
The pope noted that through Baptism each one is called to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, and to daily renew the virtues that Christ taught.
And above all, the virtue of charity is something that every person can practice.
Benedict XVI“Charity in fact brings that spiritual freedom which can break down any wall, and build a new world of solidarity, goodness and respect for the dignity of all.”
Benedict XVI said that Easter serves as a reminder every year to renew the faith.
Benedict XVI“Easter, then, is a gift to be received ever anew in faith, so that we may become a constant leaven of life, justice and reconciliation in our world. As believers in the risen Lord, this is our mission: to awaken hope in place of despair, joy in place of sadness, and life in place of death.”
Among the attendees of the general audience, it's expected that many of them will also be in Rome this weekend for the beatification of John Paul II.
