YoutubeOctober 21, 2009. During his general audience the pope said that faith based only in reason runs the risk of not being very convincing.

He dedicated the audience to St. Bernard, who he called “the last of the Fathers” of the Church and reminded pilgrims that a personal encounter with God is essential in order to resolve questions on faith and life.

Benedict XVI
“May Bernard’s example of a faith nourished by prayer, study and contemplation, lead us closer “to Jesus through Mary” and grant us that wisdom which finds joyful fulfilment in the knowledge of the saints in heaven.”

The pope reminded pilgrims of the importance of praying to Our Lady in the face of difficulties like Saint Bernard did.
