Pope sends condolences to the family of Oswaldo Payá, a Cuban dissident who died in a car accident

YoutubeJuly 25, 2012. (Romereports.com) Through a telegram, Benedict XVI said his thoughts and prayers are with the family of Oswaldo Payá . The founder of the Christian Liberation Movement, passed away along with the movement's youth leader, Harold Cepero, after being involved in a car accident.


Both victims were political activists and leaders of this movement, which inspired by Christian values, openly opposes Cuba's Communist government.  Payá also led the “Heredia Project' which actively sought signatures to trigger changes in the Cuban government.
 
The telegram was signed by Msgr. Becciu, who is the 3rd in command at the Vatican's Secretariat of State. He was also the apostolic nuncio to Cuba between 2009 and 2011.
