September 8, 2010. The Pope has sent a special message to the UK during the general audience. This is an unusual gesture with which he prepares his trip to this country from 16 to 19 September.

“I am very much looking forward to my visit to the United Kingdom in a week’s time and I send heartfelt greetings to all the people of Great Britain”.
The pope thanks all those who are helping to prepare the visit, both Catholic and non-Catholics. Names especially government officials and Scotland, London and Birmingham, journalists and security forces.

“I am most grateful to Her Majesty the Queen and to His Grace the Archbishop of Canterbury for receiving me, and I look forward to meeting them”.
He says that he personally very glad beatify Cardinal John Henry Newman, who defines a truly Englishman.
