March 10, 2012. (Romereports.com) More than 600 priests gathered at the Vatican's Paul VI Hall to take part in a unique course, organized by the Apostolic Penitentiary. The course which focused on the internal forum was organized by the Apostolic Penitentiary. As a finishing touch, they were all welcomed by the Pope.
Cardinal Manuel Monteiro di Castro who serves as the Major Penitentiary explained why the course is key for all priests.
Card. Manuel Monteiro di Castro
“We are very much aware that the Sacrament of reconciliation is directly linked to the New Evangelization. It's an experience based on faith where one can feel the Mercy of God.”
The Pope said the New Evangelization passes directly through the confessional. In this Sacrament, the role of priests is to be 'instruments of God's encounter with men.' The Pope also explained why confession furthers the cause of the New Evangelization.
“In that sense, every confession leads a Christian towards renewal. This is a positive step towards the New Evangelization.”
Benedict XVI defined confession as 'an encounter and hug with Christ.' He also added that priests get to collaborate with so many people as they start their new spiritual beginning.
The Apostolic Penitentiary began organizing these type of courses 23 years ago.
