March 8, 2010. For Catholics who live in a northern Roman community, this Sunday mass was particularly special. That’s because Pope Benedict XVI presided over the Eucharistic celebration on the third Sunday of Lent at St. John of the Cross parish.
Benedict XVI“ I am very pleased to be among you today to celebrate with you the Lord’s day.”It was the pope’s first visit to this relatively new church. The church was consecrated in 2001.
Benedict XVI “I urge you to make this church a place where you can better listen to the Lord, who speaks to you in Sacred Scripture."
The pope reminded the congregation that it should not only collaborate with the church but he said they share the responsibility for the being and action of the church. He called on worshippers to be more involved in proclaiming the Gospel.
Benedict XVI“Let yourself be missionaries of Christ for others in different areas of the community, like work, school or where you spend your free time.”Pope Benedict XVI concluded his message by reminding Catholics that Lent is a time to recognize the mystery of God as individuals and as communities.
