October 17, 2012. (Romereports.com) The Pope has decided to send a delegation to Syria, as early as next week, as a way to show his support for the Syrian community. T
he announcement was made by the Vatican's Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone.
During the Synod on the New Evangelization,
Bertone said they could not be mere spectators as a tragedy unfolded in Syria. The delegation will head out to the country's capital. Most of
them are Synod Fathers who are currently in Rome. They include Card. Laurent Mosengwo Pasinya, who serves as the Archbishop of Kinshasa. Also on that list in Card. Jean-Louis Tauran, president of the Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue. New York's Archbishop Card. Timothy Dolan, as well as Bishop Fabio Suescun Mutis, who serves as the Military Ordinary of Colombia. Also attending is Bishop Joseph Nguyen Nang, of Phat Diem in Vietnam.
The Vatican's foreign minister, Archbishop Dominique Mamberti and Msgr. Alberto Ortega, from the Secretariat of State will also be attending.
