January 11, 2011. “Light of the World”, the book which contains an exclusive interview with the Pope, was a hot item this Christmas. Translated into 16 languages, the book was the 7th most-sold book in Spain and in Italy, it ranked number 15 on the best-seller list. Some 200, 000 copies were sold in German, and about 75,000 in English and French.
Spanish archbishop Juan-Enric Vives says that the secret of its success, is that it reveals unknown facts about Joseph Ratzinger.
Mons. Joan-Enric Vives Archbishop of Seu d'Urgel (Spain) “The book revealed his personality, his opinion on crucial issues, his personal goals, as a christian, as a priest, as bishop of Rome, as Pope, as a theologian, and we can, through these different questions, see him in these different facets.”
What surprised Vives is the advice Benedict XVI's gives on caring for the catholic community.
Mons. Joan-Enric Vives Archbishop of Seu d'Urgel (Spain) “For me, as a bishop, it is very useful advice. This book says: you must govern with your heart and prayer, not just by doing things. Today, the great temptation for everyone, also for a bishop, priest, lay people, is to want to be in too many places.”
German author, Peter Seewald, interviewed the Pope over a period of six days. Each day, Seewald interviewed the pope for one hour.
The interview took place at the Pope's vacation home in Castel Gandolfo, outside Rome.
With the publication of this book, Benedict XVI might just be the first pope to talk about his pontificate in-depth.
