YoutubeJune 15, 2011. (Romereports.com) During the general audience, the pope talked about the power of prayer. He said prophet Elijah was a true model of intercessory prayer, particularly when calling for an end to idol worshiping.

Benedict XVI
“He calls upon Israel to choose the Lord and prays for their conversion of heart. What is more, he urges the people themselves to draw near and share in his prayer.”

The pope mentioned how God responds to Elijah's prayer by revealing his mercy and saving power when the prophet confronts idol worshiping priests in Mount Carmel. Through his prayer, Elijah calls for his people to have a change of heart, so they can transform their lives and follow one true God.

Benedict XVI
“Let us be forever more convinced of the power of intercessory prayer, so that we can help all people to know the one true God, to turn away from every form of idolatry.”

With thousands of youths in the general audience, the pope also gave a special message to students, by encouraging them to go through their final exams with serenity and faith.
