Costa Rica's president, Laura Chinchilla was invited to give a lecture at the Vatican. It happened just hours after she met with Benedict XVI during a private meeting.

“He specifically talked about an admiration he feels for Costa Rica. For how the people of our country developed a nation based on Christian values, like peace, solidarity and justice.”
The president was a guest speaker at the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences. There, she talked about Costa Rica, and how it developed a peaceful democracy and steady growth.
Among those in attendance was the prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship, Cardinal Antonio Cañizares. Also there was the Vatican's governor, Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello. Ambassadors from several Latin American countries were also at the presentation.
