A group of priests and lay people were arrested in the city of Tianshui, in northeastern China. They are being held in separate cells and forced to attend political study sessions four hours everyday.
The Chinese Patriotic Church is controlled by the Chinese government.
They arrested priests and Catholics that are faithful to the Church of
Rome. It was done in an effort to support the new bishop proposed by the
Patriotic Church for the city of Tianshui.
China has no official relationship with the Vatican. The Vatican has
said those involved in illicit ordinations by the Chinese government
would be excommunicated.
