YoutubeRomereports.com March 26, 2010. This image is only a taste of what visitors at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C get to see up close.

It’s one of 20 realistic Spanish masterpieces that come together in an exhibit called "The Sacred Made Real: Spanish Painting and Sculpture 1600-1700”

The exhibit showcases works of extreme realism created for the Catholic Church during that time period.

The idea was to make the pieces look real. Take for example this life-size figure of Christ with awful gory wounds on his back after he had been whipped.

Many of these works have never travelled outside of Spain, but through the end of May, visitors can see them on display in the U.S capital.
