April 5, 2011. Travel in Rome through the hand of Caravaggio. Visit the same places where he lived, worked and spent his free time during the 10 years he resided in the Eternal City. This is the main task of newly organized tours taking place through mid-June.

“They are guided tours that begin in the church of Sant Ivo of the Sapienza, which now houses an exhibition on the documents from the life of Caravaggio, which really helped us identify the places where he lived. It will follow various roads and end at the Venice Palace, where there are two exhibitions, 'La bottega del genio' and 'Caravaggio. La capilla Contarelli.'”
The tour traces the life of Caravaggio through Rome. Passing by where he lived in the Palazzo Madama, as well as Piazza Navona, the site of many of his assaults and arrests. The church St. Louis of the French holds three great pieces of work by the painter. As well as the Piazza de Firenze, where he killed a man.
The itinerary includes less known locations such as hotels where he ate and was known to sometimes assault the waiters, also his barbershop, and the last home he resided in, which still remains intact.
The streets of the historic center of Rome have not changed. This allows visitors a glimpse into the atmosphere that the painter Lombardo experienced and where you can enjoy some of his magnificent works.

“Tourists and locals will be able to see Caravaggio's ghost, still present in the city and see the restaurants where he ate, the Vía de la Scrofa where he participated in many of his fights, the places where he fought and fell in love. In general, it will be an itinerary that combines art and real life.”

“Caravaggio lived an intense life for ten years in this city, that's something of a miracle, because it is virtually intact. It was fun and easy to find the different places from his life because Caravaggio is fascinating not only for his works but also for the dramatic, intense and turbulent life he led.”
The tour lasts two hours and is organized for groups of up to 25 people. It's available in Italian, English, French and Spanish.
It's a different way to visit the historical center of Rome by the hand of the master of chiaroscuro.
