YoutubeNovember 5, 2012. (Romereports.com) The Vatileaks trial continued on Monday, inside this Vatican City State courtroom. But this time, it didn't involve the Pope's butler. It involved  Claudio Sciarpelletti, a computer technician who works at the Vatican's Secretariat of State.

Sciarpelletti is not accused of being an accomplice. Rather, he is accused of hindering the investigation. His request to remain anonymous was granted, and no cameras were allowed inside the courtroom.

Back in May, officers  discovered that Sciarpelletti had a document which dealt with the Vatican's police department. Apparently, that same text had been published alongside other confidential documents.

FEDERICO LOMBARDI
Vatican spokesman

“The more accurate accusation is that he caused problems in the investigation. He gave different explanations as to why those documents were on his desk. But in this case, complicity is not mentioned.”

His lawyer attempted to demonstrate that the technician was not a close friend of the butler, therefore he had no interest in protecting him.

After being detained last May, Sciarpelletti was under the custody of Vatican police for a day.
If found guilty, he could be sentenced up to a year in prison.
