Sunday April 24 of 2005, Benedict XVI officially began his pontificate. It was in St. Peter's Square with a ceremony called
“Mass of imposition of the pallium and Conferral of the Fisherman's Ring in the solemn inauguration of the Petrine Ministry of the Bishop of Rome”. In his homily, the new pope said
“the Church is alive. And the Church is young. She holds within herself the future of the world and therefore shows each of us the way towards the future. The Church is alive and we are seeing it.”PH/AE
