YoutubeOctober 19, 2012. (Romereports.com) Carmen Sallés, founded the Conceptionists Missionary Sisters of Education. She was born in 1848 in Vic, which is a town near Barcelona, Spain. Back then, women didn't really have access to a good education or even work, but that was something she wanted to change.

While growing up in Spain she saw protests that spoke out against religion, which was quite common for Spain during that time. Even so, she decided to dedicate her life to God and become a nun.

“Back then the role of women was to be at home. But she wanted to give these women a solid religious formation, that would go far beyond a rocking chair and knitting, so to speak. To develop their solid faith and culture in all orders.”

To achieve this goal, she became the director of a school in Barcelona, where she developed training programs for workers. Despite the progress, she was both admired and criticized for promoting education among women.

“She would often say that education comes as second nature. To achieve promising goals, there must be good principles in place.”

While teaching in the classroom, she gathered support from a group of followers. Shortly after, the Conceptionists Missionary Sisters of Education was born. Now it runs schools in four continents.

“She went through all types of  hardships. From the economical, to critics both within the Church and in society. However she had hope and she believed that something better is always possible.  In fact, the motto for her canonization is: Forward, always forward, God will provide.”

To be canonized, it must be proven that a miracle was granted through the intercession of the candidate. This miracle deals with a 3 year old girl, who was paralyzed due to a serious illness.

“The result of the MRI showed a serious brain condition. She could have died or be disabled for life. Doctors said that over a long period of time, there was a chance of recovery with medication and therapy.”

Her classmates began praying to Carmen Sallés. The girl was  completely cured after only 10 days. Her cure, was complete, immediate, and lasting, without any scientific explanation. That little girl has now grown to be a young woman, who will be present during Salles' canonization.
