February 12, 2010. Love is in the air, and so are wedding bells for many couples on the brink of saying “I do”. Two words exchanged by more than 500 couples every year inside St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

But according to
Regency, a company that has organized wedding there for more than 23 years, the process starts months and months in advanced. It starts by sending all proper documentation to the Vatican including baptism, confirmation documents and a letter signed by the couples bishop with the perspective wedding dates.

Regency Wedding Planner“A certificate and a letter from a bishop that you can get married so you have to be recommended from their church that they are a good couple.”Then, the couple must also contact their respective consulate in Italy for more paperwork to legalize the marriage and sign a check made out to St. Peter’s Basilica for 270 euros.
St. Peter’s Basilica presides over weddings at 10:30 in the morning on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursday’s and Fridays. It could be a long tedious process, but some say the result is worthwhile
