Tillich serves as the Minister-President of the Free State of Saxony. In the audience, he was accompanied by an entourage and there was an exchanging of gifts with the pope. The group gave the pontiff a special Montblanc pen that came in the color white. The pope in return gave them all a medal of his pontificate.
