June 27, 2012. (Romereports.com) The Pope has named American Archbishop Joseph Agustine Di Noia, as the new vice president of the Ecclesia Dei Commission, which deals with establishing communication and dialogue with the Society of St. Pius X, especially when it comes to having its members recognize the Pope.
According to the Vatican, “the appointment of a high-ranking prelate to
this position is a sign of the Holy Father’s strong desire for the
reconciliation of traditionalist communities not in union with the See
of Peter.”
The Pope is also hoping that Di Noia's strong relationship with the
Jewish community, will help solve concerns between Catholics and Jews,
especially since Lefebvrists, don't agree with inter-religious dialogue.
Di Noia, who is 68 years old, was born in New York and is currently
serving as the Archbishop of Oregon City. Up until recently, he served
as the secretary for the Congregation for Divine Worship and the
Discipline of the Sacraments. That post will now be taken by Bishop
Arthur Roche.
