YoutubeOctober 28, 2012. (Romereports.com) What does it take to be a missionary in the XXI century? Two departments at the Pontifical Gregorian University are looking to address the concerns of those involved in the missions, specifically how to prepare them professionally.

ILARIA MORALI
Director, Department of Missiology Pontifical Gregorian University

“The call to proclaim the Gospel is the duty of every baptized person. It's simply part of the Christian vocation itself, regardless of individual status or vocation in life.”

Morali says the New Evangelization cannot be improvised. It requires specific training and formation-not just only good intentions.

“Our school offers training for religious, laity and priests who want to prepare for the challenges of proclaiming the Gospel and the New Evangelization.”

To get the message out the University is offering new courses. They include Mission ad gentes and New Evangelization. The goal is to address the most important challenges of missiology and the theology of religions. Perhaps even most challenging, is addressing how to talk about God to someone who is a declared atheist.

FR. BRYAN LOBO
Director, Department Theology of Religions

“If I look inside myself, I think of my salvation, how to live as a Christian, living the values  of Christ. Well, I become a model for the rest. Mother Teresa never forced people to conversion, baptism, she only lived as a Christian.”

The professors also teach about ways to approach those who have never heard about Jesus. To get their point across, the first step is having a profound respect for each person. The Faculty of Missiology turns 80 this year and has 100 students.
