When the Pope talks about Latin
America, he always talks about the need to create fair working conditions, the
need to help the poor and the need to defend the family and human life. The
Pope emphasized these main points to a group of Chilean bishops, at a meeting
held every 5 years.
The Pope told them the main thing their
country's Catholics need are holy bishops that take care of the rest of the
Catholic community.
Benedict XVI I also would
like to entrust you, in a very special way to the priests, who are your closest
collaborators, let them know of my appreciation for their loyalty to their
ministry and for their constant and dedicated work.In his
speech, the Pope cited twice the importance of promoting the works of charity
and supporting the families.
Juan Ignacio Gonzalez Errázuriz
Bishop of San Bernardo, Chile I told the Pope
about our initiative, the House of the Families, where we have gathered in one
place all of the basic services for family care, youth education and affection. Also, the office of family mediation jointly with the University of
the Andes helps troubled marriages or marriages who anticipate trouble by
referring them to a specialist for help. As an acknowledgement of the
bishops' two weeks of hard work, the Pope gave them a pectoral cross and a copy
of the message.
