On the feast of the Immaculate
Conception, Benedict XVI visited the famous Spanish Steps in Rome to venerate
the image of the Virgin. The Pope said a touching prayer asking her to help put
an end to social differences.
Benedict XVI Mary teach us to be sympathetic to whomever is in trouble, to
balance out the large social differences that are growing increasingly; help us
to cultivate an alive sense of the common good, respect for the public, push us
to feel this city as the heritage of all, and each of us to do, with knowledge
and commitment, our part in building a more just and caring city. Traditionally, the Pope dedicates his visit to the sick of the
Eternal City but this year he prayed especially for those affected by economic
crisis.
Benedict XVI I entrust to
Mary the elderly who are lonely, the sick, the immigrants who have difficulties
in adapting, the families who have trouble paying their bills and the
unemployed.Benedict XVI greeted the ambassador of Spain,
Francisco Vázquez and his family. He also offered the Virgin white roses, a
symbol of love and devotion of the Church and the people of Rome.
