July 17, 2009. Doctors have decided to operate on the pope’s right wrist to fix a fracture he suffered after falling Thursday night at the house where he’s spending his vacation.

According to the Vatican, the injury is not serious.

The pope celebrated Mass this morning normally and had breakfast. Later, he went to a hospital where they immobilized his arm and gave him a medical check-up.

Pope Benedict is currently spending his vacation in the Aosta Valley in Northern Italy, near Mont Blanc.
