YoutubeSeptember 1, 2009. Every summer, the city of Rimini in Italy welcomes thousands of people who travel there for a cultural and religious meeting organized by the Communion and Liberation movement.

The meeting consists of a series of conferences and exhibits as a way to study problems in society and discuss best ways of dealing with them.

This year it was the 30th such meeting, based on the slogan “knowledge is always an event.”

Among the participants was ex-British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who credited his wife Cherry with his conversion to Catholicism. He said he enjoyed going to Church with her and that other times it was her who accompanied him to Anglican service. Blair said one of the factors that encouraged his conversion was the universality of the Church.

Archbishop of Madrid Antonio Maria Rouco-Varela spoke about the next World Youth Day to be held in Madrid in 2011, as well as the possibility of reform to freedom of religion laws in Spain, and the role of the laity in the Church.

The Communion and Liberation movement hopes to find solutions to problems in society through meetings like this one while engaging people from different parts of the world.

By doing so they likewise hope to create a culture rooted in truth, love and charity.
