YoutubeSeptember 1, 2012. (Romereports.com) So, everyone knows that summers are supposed to be hot, but here in Rome, just outside the Vatican, tourists say  'hot' is an understatement.

Tourist
“We kind of knew it was going to be hot, but not this hot.”

Tourist
“These days it has really hot here in Rome, especially in St. Peter's Square.”

Now, street vendors are selling hats, umbrellas and scarfs, like no other time of the year. But from one to ten, exactly how hot is it?

Tourist
“Probably about 7”

That number may not seem that high. But wait until you hear, what he's comparing the temperature to.

Tourist
“I've been to the Sahara desert once. That was pretty hot during the day. It was a lot hotter than this.”

With high temperatures in the 90's and humidity hitting the 40's, Even those who are learning Italian, know exactly what words to use to describe the heat and humidity.

Tourist
“It's really, really hot. I can speak in the superlative. Very hot.”

Some people have opted to simply not wait in line, to go inside the Vatican.

Tourist
“We don't bother to wait in the lines. We queued a little bit for the Coliseum yesterday, but it wasn't as bad as this. We just came to look at the outside, we're not going to stand in that queue for two hours or whatever it is.”

Tourist
“What can we do? Nothing really, just keep on walking.”

Maybe that is the best advice. Just keep on walking and try to enjoy Rome and what seems, like its eternal summer heat, with a tall cold bottle of water.
