YoutubeAugust 11, 2012. (Romereports.com) Along the road next to the passageway that connects the Vatican to Castel Sant'Angelo, is “Carpe Diem”. A store that attracts customers by the originality of their products.

MARCO PROIETTI
Owner “Carpe Diem”
“We raised the problem of how to offer a different product and thought, maybe when you go to a place, a different city, you want to find something that is typical of that place, made with techniques and materials characteristic of the location.”

The store owner Marco carries reproductions of ornaments, armor, paintings, jewelry and clothing of ancient Rome. Visitors can also find original Etruscan vases and replicas of perfumes that were used for almost two thousand years. There's also mirrors, paper fashioned from that time period, jewels and archaeological remains that are replicas of  museum pieces.

MARCO PROIETTI
Owner “Carpe Diem”
“They have been made not only with the same materials, but with the same techniques of that time. In some cases, these things are still used today, but in others we had to start all over and that is a little harder.”

Their products not only revive ancient Rome, the store is part of a much more ambitious project called “Roman Culture”.

It is a social and cultural organization founded in 2010 to raise awareness and value on the culture of art, technology and organization from Imperial Rome.

MARCO PROIETTI
Owner “Carpe Diem”
“My personal opinion is that the culture of ancient Rome is the foundation of all Western culture.”

Marco's desire to spread this culture is based on a well-known phrase of Seneca which says “do not rejoice in the possession of any goods except in company”. Marco hopes his store “Carpe Diem” will transport people back in time to help revive the culture of ancient Rome.
