March 18, 2010. For the Catholic Church, preserving the place linked to Jesus birth, life and death is vital to the Church’s future in the Holy Land.
But it’s a task that comes with a major price tag. That’s why Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, has written a letter to bishops all over the world to encourage them to participate in the annual collection for the Holy Land on Good Friday.
The Congregation for Eastern Churches coordinates the Holy Land collection. Each year millions of dollars are raised for the cause.
Part of the funds go to support parishes, poor families, schools and provide university scholarships for Christian students.
In 2009, the money also funded restoration projects from Bethlehem to Jerusalem last year.
Cardinal Sandri writes all this and more couldn’t have been possible without the generosity of Catholics around the globe.
