December 16, 2011. (Romereports.com) (-ONLY VIDEO-) St. Peter's Square looks more beautiful than ever. The Vatican Christmas tree lights have been turned on in a special ceremony. The tree was given to the pope by the country of Ukraine.
For the ceremony, a delegation from Ukraine traveled to Rome. Ukrainian
bishops participated, as well as the Major Archbishop of the Ukrainian
Greco-Catholic Church, Svioatoslav Schevchuck, the spiritual leader of
seven and a half million people around the world.
Also attending were the Archbishop of Lviv, Mieczyslaw Mokrzycki, the
Deputy Prime Minister Kolesnikov Borys and the Orthodox Archbishop of
Poltava and Myrhorod.
The tree comes from the Ukrainian region of Zakarpattya. It measures 98
feet tall, weighing 4.9 tons and is adorned with 2,500 gold ornaments
and silver figures of angels and animals.
