For the first time a woman
directed a concert at the Vatican.
Maestro Imma Shara lead the
Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester of Frankfurt at the solemn concert for the
60th anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations, an
event organized by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace.
Inma
Shara
Director of Orchestra I don't think I've ever been so nervous in a
concert in all my life and perhaps with so much uncertainty. But at the same
time it was exciting. I believe that it's really indescribable having the
honour of leading a concert for his Holiness. It's a dream that came true for
this young and talented Basque director, known in Spain as the prodigal child of
classical music.
Imma Shara
Directora de Orquestra The music is a
passion that demands a lot of sacrifice, but it also gives you much enthusiasm:
it improves the capacity of sacrifice because it's like being an athlete ...
practicing every day, every day you have the worry of stage fright. Yesterday obviously the stage fright was more intense because of the great
responsibility, but I can say that each concert is an exercise in challenging
yourself as a person, because once the concert starts we do not play
back. The music of Felix Mendelsshon, Amadeus Mozart moved and
pleased the guests of the Pope.
In the end, when he thanked the director,
Benedict XVI told her that the concert had brought him much joy.
